He is survived by his loving wife Bertha Burns Morrison, children Lloyd Gregory Morrison (Adrienne) of Atlanta, GA, Mildred E. Morrison of Pittsburgh, PA, Michael Burns (Vera) of McDonough, GA, Maria Burns Elliott (Wayne) of Clarksville, Tennessee, Michelle Burns Mitchell (Ken) of Bushkill, PA and Lori Burns Ward (Ed) of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, as well as host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was the oldest of seven children born to Everton Lloyd and Maude G. Morrison of Boston, Massachusetts. Educated in the Boston Public Schools he graduated from Boston Latin School in 1938 and enrolled at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. While enrolled at Bates he joined the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity through the Gamma chapter in Boston. Graduating from Bates with a Biology degree in 1942, he enlisted in the US Army serving as medic in China, Burma and India. He served with distinction earning several citations including the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in 1945. In 1947 he married Grace West in Nashua, New Hampshire and they made their home in Boston. He worked in the Physiology Department of Harvard Medical School in Cambridge as part of a team which did medical research on a variety of health issues ranging from diabetes to development of the combined oral contraceptive pill (CCOP), often referred to as the birth control pill. In 1961 Lloyd and his family moved to Pittsburgh, where he joined the Physiology Department at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School. He also began a second career as a tutor working with high school students who aspired to enroll in college. In 1971, his wife Grace Morrison died and twelve years later Lloyd retired from the University. His passion for tutoring and teaching continued and eventually he went to work at Goodwill Industries in Pittsburgh, as an adult literacy instructor. It was there he met co-worker Bertha Burns and they fell in love, getting married in December of 1997 at Niagara Falls, New York. Retiring for the second time in 1999, he and his wife moved to Clarksville to be near her daughter Maria Elliott. In Clarksville he worked part time as instructor in the adult literacy program at Austin Peay State University, an experience that enriched him and the lives of the students with whom he came in contact. He was also able to renew his participation in the activities of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity through the Psi Pi Chapter. In his lifetime Lloyd Morrison was lucky enough to have three families. The family of his birth, and early upbringing, the families brought to him by both of the women he loved and the family of colleagues, friends and fraternity brothers whom he cherished. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work on behalf of his family, a love of education, and devotion to his wife and children. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the E.Hyburnia Scholarship Fund of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Psi Pi Chapter P.O. Box 2903, Clarksville, TN 37042.
